PAY RANGE:
$25.00 - $35.00 Hourly
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Healthy Lifestyle Coordinator, the Group Exercise Instructor leads safe and effective group classes in accordance with class descriptions and YMCA guidelines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/FUNCTIONS:
- Teaches assigned class(es) or ensures that class(es) unable to teach are covered: Starts and ends class on time per Group Exercise schedule
- Finds substitutes as necessary, at least 1 week prior to date of request
- Informs Director or Coordinator by email, text or phone call, that the class will be substituted and by whom at least 1 week in advance of class
- Substitutes for other instructors when possible
- Does not teach more than 10 classes a week with the YMCA Association
- Does not sub for a class not trained in or certified to teach
- Gives one months’ notice for vacation requests that require coverage for two or more weeks of classes
- Conducts safe, effective and fun exercise classes, following class schedule description and YMCA standards and guidelines
- Communicates with members regarding Group Exercise program and specialty classes
- Develops relationships with members
- Makes special announcements requested by Healthy Lifestyles Director or Coordinator, such as schedule changes, class substitutes, new classes, special workshops or events, etc.
- Provides encouragement and motivation to all class participants
- Provides modifications to meet the needs of all levels of participants
- Reports broken and/or missing equipment immediately to supervisor
- Adheres to all Child Abuse Prevention guidelines including but not limited to:
- Adhere to policies, SOP’s, and handbooks related to boundaries with youth.
- Attends and participates in all required abuse risk management training.
- Adhere to standards & procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising youth.
- Comply with the YMCA and State of Hawaii abuse reporting requirements.
- Ensure that youth are closely monitored, and routinely monitor high-risk locations (locker rooms and bathrooms), etc.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current nationally accredited Primary Group Exercise Certification OR current YMCA Primary Group Exercise Certification required
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid required
- Current certification in specialized class
- Must possess strong interpersonal/communication skills.
