Windward Y - Summer Teen Leader

$17.00 - $22.00 Hourly

POSITION SUMMARY:
Teen Leaders are responsible for the daily supervision of program participants and assisting in the planning, development, and implementation of program components and activities are of quality as aligned with the program model.
Teen Leaders must provide a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment consistent with the program model and goals and ensure the success of students. Teen Leaders will lead after school activities including, but not limited to physical education, community time, college and career exploration, and academic support.
Teen Leaders report directly to the Teen Coordinator. The Teen Leader will comply and adhere to all standards, policies, and procedures set by the YMCA of Honolulu
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/JOB DUTIES:
- Demonstrate core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility in all interactions.
- Lead a variety of summer activities, including physical recreation, community-building, college, and career exploration, and academic enrichment, while maintaining a safe and welcoming environment.
- Support the Site Coordinators and Youth Directors in daily operations and supervision of youth participants in alignment with program policies and procedures.
- Attend and actively participate in all summer staff meetings and trainings; remain open to feedback, collaboration, and leadership development.
- Help ensure all program spaces, equipment, and materials are clean, organized, and in good working condition.
- Share ideas and feedback that contribute to the continuous improvement of the summer program.
- Perform other related duties as needed to support a successful summer program.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Skills/Knowledge:
- Experience engaging 6th-12th grade teens in recreation, leadership development, service learning, civic engagement, college and career pathways, and other personal development areas
- Skilled in general teen programs group or classroom management.
- Exercise mature judgment and sound decision-making
- Customer service oriented with strong interpersonal skills, well organized and multi-tasked oriented.
- Understanding of working with teens, group management, and group work
- Experience engaging middle and high school youth in recreation, leadership development, service learning, civic engagement, college and career pathways, and other personal development areas
- Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations.
- Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
- Lead by example, serve as a model of professionalism and competency for peers and employees
- Must be proficient in Word and Excel programs, with Windows 10 and above, Publisher, Power Point/ LCD projector preferred
- Ability to operate other software applications as required
Education/Training:
- High school diploma or equivalent. Current enrollment in or graduation from a higher education program preferred.
- Strong communication and organizational skills required.
- Experience facilitating teen group activities preferred.
- CPR, AED, and First Aid certified (training available upon hire).

**This position and its pay are dependent on the availability of funds and continuation of the contracted program. The current contract provides programming for June 2024 - July 2025 with the likely possibility of extension for an additional two years (until July 2027).
