POSITION SUMMARY: 
The Media Specialist is a skilled visual content producer who supports the creation of compelling, mission-driven media under the guidance of the Media Manager. This role is responsible for capturing high-quality photo and video content, editing engaging visual stories, and producing polished final products that align with the YMCA’s brand, mission, and organizational goals. Working collaboratively with the Media Manager, the Media Specialist assists with content planning, supports on-site shoots and events, independently documents routine program moments, and completes assigned post-production tasks. This role helps ensure all visual content is creative, impactful, and consistent with established brand standards while authentically reflecting the experiences and communities the YMCA serves.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 
  • Execute production plans, shot lists, and creative direction provided by the Media Manager from inception to completion.
  • Operate cameras and other equipment demonstrating working knowledge of exposure, focus, white balance, and frame rates across various environments.
  • Edit raw footage using industry-standard software such as Adobe Premiere, Canva and Final Cut Pro to create polished final products.
  • Capture intentional b-roll applying composition principles including rule of thirds, leading lines, and framing to produce visually compelling footage and photos.
  • Operate basic lighting setups including natural light, reflectors, and portable LED panels in both indoor and outdoor settings.
  • Serve as a camera operator at high-priority events and independently cover events when multiple programs run concurrently using Manager-provided shot lists.
  • Incorporate motion graphics, sound design, and other post-production techniques to enhance video and photo quality.
  • Produce quick-turn edits including short-form Reels, social clips, and recap cuts as assigned.
  • Carry and manage camera gear and equipment to and from shoot locations as needed.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, techniques, and technologies to continuously improve skills & output.
  • Organize and archive footage for future use.
  • Ensure all video content aligns with brand guidelines and messaging.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
 QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • College degree in Cinematography, Film Production, Marketing, or related field; or 4 years equivalent in related work experience. 
  • Proficiency in video production techniques, including videography and post-production processes. 
  • Proficiency in video and photo editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Lightroom, CapCut and Canva or any related video and photo editing softwares.
  • Familiarity with creating content for various social media platforms, understanding platform-specific trends and requirements. 
  • Strong understanding of camera operations, lighting, and sound equipment. 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to receive constructive feedback positively.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a strong sense of visual storytelling. 
  • Knowledge of drone operation preferred.

  • A portfolio showcasing previous work in videography and editing is highly desirable.

This position and its pay are dependent on the availability of funds and continuation of the contracted
program. The current contract provides programming for June 2024 - July 2025 with the likely
possibility of extension for an additional two years (until July 2027).
