POSITION SUMMARY:

The Nurse serves as the manager for all things health care and health related.  Duties include, but are not necessarily limited to: supervision of the Nurse Assistant, organization and distribution of camper medications, supervision of health and cleanliness standards, providing health care for campers up to emergency support, keeping an accurate health center log,  communicating with parents, and overall working with camp director and staff to maintain a safe summer season.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage health history and examination forms, as required.
  • Follow established system for health screening for arriving campers and staff including checking for head lice.
  • Conduct inventory of supplies prior to, during and after camp, and place orders when necessary, ensuring timely arrival of supplies.
  • Establish and follow appropriate medical routines including record keeping in the daily medical log, disposal of medicine waste, managing and safeguarding medications, and utilizing approved standing orders.
  • Coordinate coverage of the health center on stay over weekends.
  • Participate in and lead specific areas of staff training pertaining to camp health and safety, first aid, and use of universal precautions for infection control.
  • Make copies of routine safety and first aid procedures available to the staff.
  • Distribute daily medications and communicate medication dispensing times to campers and staff.
  • Make appointments, when necessary, with medical/dental personnel in the community and work with the Camp Director to assign staff to transport. 
  • Administer and record all medications and treatments per ACA Standards and Standing Orders.
  • File accident/incident reports that can be used for risk-management assessment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Licensed to practice in the state of Hawaii as a registered nurse
  • Experienced with children and young adults desirable
  • Ability to originate, update, and/or monitor health care, maintain records, and implement the health care plan.
  • CPR/First Aid and AED (required)
  • TB test (required)
  • Desire to work and live in a camp community
  • Must have current drivers license
